Grand Knight

Spring is here! With Spring comes many events, including our annual KOVAR drive, to collect money to support the now “intellectually challenged”. KOVAR is our one time during the year that we can really make a difference for these individuals. There are so many other spring events, sports, gardening and vacations, it can be difficult to find time to be part of this effort. Traditionally, George Brent Council has been one of the top producers when it comes to KOVAR. We are hoping to be the top Council once again this year. It will take the efforts from all, Brother Knights, wives, and children, to reach this goal. Just a few hours of your and your families’ time, standing in front of one of local merchants, to help us make a difference. There are so many children, including some with connections to our Council that greatly benefit from this effort. Please find some time in your busy schedules to help out. In addition to collecting money at the merchants, we have an annual basketball game against the Diocesan Priest Basketball Team, headed up by Fr. Bob Cilinski, on April 27th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Seton High School gymnasium. We accept donations at the game to assist the Council in reaching our goals. A fun family event, for a great cause. A time to help George Brent Council shine. I invite and encourage all to participate.
As always, continue your prayers for those who defend our freedom.

April was hi-lighted with another very successful KOVAR DRIVE. Congratulations and thank you to Chairman Jim Tonnessen and his family, along with all the brothers and their families who stood outside the stores and collected the donations. This is a very special event in the life of the council, and we all know what a difference these monies make in the lives of so many folks.
May’s regularly scheduled Membership Meetings are on the 5th and the 19th. Rosary is at 7:30pm, followed by the business meeting @ 8:00 pm… and don’t forget the Council Elections will be held at the May 19th meeting. Please come out and support your officers.
Why not bring Mom for Breakfast at 10:00am on Mothers Day, May 11th... Mom eats free and does not even have to help with the dishes.
Boots, hats, and jeans... that’s about all you need to join Limp-Along-Tony, and his lovely sidekick Cactus Blossom Katy, at the Country & Western Dance on the 17th. Check out the flyer inside this newsletter for all of the details.
Last but not least is the annual Memorial Day Picnic on the 24th. We will be having our American Idol contest, the Holey Board tournament, great food and beverages, and wonderful companionship. Please mark this date on your calendars and join us for a great family celebration. …and it’s free!!
I hope to see you at at least one of these events!

Our April Family of the Month has been involved in the Council and State Council activities for serval years. Brother Rich Aleksy is a long time member of the Degree Teams and is the current State VKCCI Treasurer. He is part of the Council Last Supper Drama team. Rich has been a good resource for Council and Knights of Columbus procedural matters. With the several funerals we have had for Council members and their families this year, Agnes Aleksy and her angels have been a life saver. Agnes has rearranged her family life to help these families in time of need, hosting receptions for up to 600 guests. Agnes is also an active member in the Ladies Auxiliary. For their support of the Council and the Knights of Columbus, I would like to congratulate Rich and Agnes Aleksy as the April Family of the Month.

This Brother Knight is one that you don't hear much from, but is quite involved in the Council. Stop by bingo almost anytime during the month and you'll find behind the instant game table or anywhere he is needed. He has picked up the Council email responsibilities and is doing a bang-up job. He has been a bartender at several Council events and in the Club Room. Brother Jerry Partsch is our current Outside Guard and moving up in the chairs. Jerry is also part of the Last Supper Drama team. Fro his dedication to George Brent Council, I congratulate Jerry Partsch as the April Knight of the Month.
